oei! ben ik iets vergeten?
ok ok, Homer, the sizzling sister formely known as Badass, imperium B was er ook bij.
As we speak several Cathedrals are being erected on eleusis to commemorate his passing. His legion of 5 will be remembered for their service to the Emperor and the price they payed for their ultimate sacrifice in protecting the humies. The body of Captain Badass was recovered by the surviving Steel Legion Guard(99.9%) and consequently incinerated(on a roll of 1) so that no future Crusade Lords should suffer the pleasure of his ofsprings companionship. Meanwile, back in the flagships stately control room, High Marshal Philbrecht puts aside the astartes codex, takes another look at the battle report and scratches a little nod in his ornate wooden desk.

In a valliant attempt to repell the plague host's forces from the pristine Shrine world of Eleusis, the Salamanders chapter once again stood firm next to Armageddon's Steel Legion, as they did before when facing the Ork onslaught on the guard's home planet. As usual, it was left to the sons of Nocturne to protect the spam-in-a-can poor, poor little 'umies humans. Initial contact showed the plague host especially resilient against the combined shooting of both the guard and marine components of the response force, shrugging off even the deadliest armour-piercing rounds with contempt. Fortunatelly for the stalward defenders of the Imperium -and the Imperial Guard- the armored might of the traitorous scum was less 'blessed' by father Nurgle, leaving nothing but burning wreckage wherever these foul vehicles had made planetfall. Ultimatelly, the Salamander forces were not prepared for fighting a war of attrition against Mortarion's lot, and once again they could not depend on their mouthbreathing allies, who once again could not hit the broad side of a troop lander even if it landed right in front of them. Judging from the noises emerging from the host of Chimera's in the traditional parking lot formation, the morale of the humans was once again at an all-time high as they were trying to light up farts with their plasma guns, resulting in burned and slightly odorous piles of trooper-goo. Having expended most the Steel Legion's plasma guns in this way, the troopers started to get bored and decided to actually try to earn their pay for once, gearing up the lead Chimera, and promptly getting it stuck on a pile of rubble that some of the native insects piled up in front of their tracks. Commanders started to frantically yell orders over the vox network, promptly immobilising more transports, having troopers shoot off their own feet, or have other troopers just go into want can best be described as 'a plant-like state and a stare-at-the-horizon look in their eyes'. Despite the heroic interventions of the XVIII legion, protecting the flank of the vulnerable guard line with their very lives to allow them to finish the chapter 'care and feeding of ranged weaponry' in the Imperial Guardsman's Uplifting Primer, once again no proper respect for the sacrifice of these noble warriors was forthcoming of the rabble in their metal boxes. Not even the titanic fight between the two commanders would change that. Once again, there was no sight of the cowardly High Marshall Philbrecht that was rumoured to be in-system, as he'd obviously prefers to spend time in a stately control room lounge instead of actually doing the Emperor's work. As with the Lamenter's chapter, chapter master Tu'shan will need to have a word with these cowards, presenting the business end of his thunderhammer in a no doubt idle hope to motivate the worthless offspring of Dorn into action. One simply cannot depend on a lowly successor chapter that only survived the civil war that tore the galaxy apart because they were defending couldn't be bothered to leave Terra when other legions bought the time necessary to stop the warmaster with their own lives.

"In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war"
--++ 996391.M41 A battle of many ones ++--
The Night fell cold and silent on Eleusis where Salamanders and Steel Legion Imperial Guard kept their vigil as is one and only their duty. One might say that is was just another one of those nights, but just this once it was not so. For the enemy beyond appeared on this one night... Under the command of Lord Mortis and Lord Festus, shards from the Death Guard Legion and several Fallen poured forth from numerous warp portals. Alarmed by their presence the Loyalist scum started to mobilise everything they had against the threat now upon them. One shot followed by another one and more started what would be a truly horrendous battle.Â
The first events occured so quickly, one would need more than their eyes to follow. The Salamanders moved forward in a wedge with their attack bikes, whilst the Steel Legion used their firepower to destroy one of the enemy transports heading their direction. The Salamanders had their eyes set to flanking them, but were surprised by one of the monstrosities now indicated as a Forgefiend. One of the Steel Legion's barrages destroyed one of the fast attacker sent by Chaos in the form of Chaos Bikers. By one quick look, Heavy Weapons were spotted. One quick order to dispatch them as quickly as possible resulted in more then one casualtie. Chaos forces were in disorder. The Salamanders had also taken care of one of the enemy transports, but it was not enough to annihilate what was waiting inside. The Chaos Warband attempted to right one of their mistakes by taking the offensive to loyalist scum. Even if ones eyes are impaired, that would not stop them to unleash the one thing they know best, obliteration and destruction. One attack bike of the Salamanders fell to the fire of assault cannons, mutated in by the Obliterator-squad. Even when Chaos was but one step away of taking control, one mistake costed them dearly more than once. Not even when Lord Mortis took himself to the frontlines accompanied by Spawns with one goal in their minds, if they would have them: To kill and claim the soul of one named Captain Badass.Â
Now many were relieved to behold the sight of air support coming from multipe directions, but one thing was certain... The heretic would burn or flee back to the one hellhole they came out of. A Vendetta took the one monstrosity into it's visors to claim it's life and purpose. One of the battle-tanks fell to Salamander Melta-fire. Now that the Imperial Guard felt that the one moment to take complete control had come, they pushed forward. Commanded to concentrate their fire, one of the plasma squads lined up to claim at least one soul of the Fallen. Even with one casualty on their side, caused by the overheating of the weapon, the Steel Legion shots took effect on one of the so called Plague Marines. Salamanders unleashed a volley from the sky on one other squad, only to be faced with the frustration that one barrage of shots did not suffice to claim even one death to purge the Unlcean. One squad of attack bikes knew that they were in over their heads and tactically retreated behind one of the forest covers. One of the Obliterators received one shot with enough punch to wound him, but one wound was not enough to stop this one. Chaos swore that one way or another, their souls would become rotten to the core and fed to the One God of Plagues! Even whilst one of the Imperial Guard would impede air support from enemies, it did not stop the one great threat from entering the airspace. The Heldrake would do a meteoric Descent on the one flyer from the Salamanders followed by one fierce stream of fire to be reigned down upon the rear of one enemy Biker Squad. Lord Mortis charged captain Badass and challenged him to one-on-one combat. Several wounds were caused upon one another. One of the Forgefiend shots was enough to penetrate the armor of the Vendetta, but not enough to cause it come down. One of the Rhinos from the Salamanders took it to the front and threatend the Chaos position more. Lord Festus attempted to counter this move, but one order was not enough. The Heldrake left only to return for another strafing run, while it suffered only one minor damage to it's hull.
In close time after that, the Death Guard and Fallen allegiance was thinned out quickly. Captain Badass and Lord Mortis killed one another and when one fell, so did the other. One push from the Salamanders and one drop from the Imperial Guard was enough to push back the forces of chaos. In a humiliating defeat and one thought in mind, Chaos had to surrender with their lives only to have sworn one thing. Revenge on the Loyalist Dogs upon one day!

+++ Personal log of battle brother Kadai, XVIII legion strike cruiser Cleansing Flame, 821684.M41 +++
Not content with being forced into a defensive position, chapter master Bad'ass organised a daring crusade at Justerii, a foul Xenos stronghold within the Jericho Reach. Even through the darkness of the Justerii night, the entire planet seemed wrong. Through the viewing ports of Dragon's Descent, our Thunderhawk dropship, I caught a glimpse of the battlefield: glooming pale ruins, poking out of the white snow like bones punching through flesh. We made landfall in the remains of an earlier battlefield, taking up entrenched positions around our command post, a small bunker that seemingly had remained intact for ages. While Imperial Guard landers deployed the mechanized elements of our strike force, scouts reported Xenos activity in the city ruins nearby, indicating a strongpoint, possibly a small command outpost. By the Emperor's Will, we shall take it!
These infernal mists! They make it impossible to see even brother hitnev'a, manning the barricades only a few feet away. We might as well be fighting in the black of night! Making our final oaths, we set up firing lanes and killing zones, supported by the guard contingent that would take to the flanks while we would secure the drop zone. Directly ahead of us, the mists colored a bright orange as a lumbering behemoth, made of flame and molten rock broke free of the ruins, moments later, silent constructs marched out next to the abomination, vaguely humanoid in form, yet no life signs showed up on the auspex. What witchcraft is this?
Suddenly the entire front was flooded in the harsh light of imperial searchlights, penetrating the mists and clearly showing the ghostly figures marching towards our lines. Multimelta fire from the entrenched troops, supported by Predator tanks quickly took down one of the bigger ones, claiming first blood, while the combined firepower of both the guard veterans and the lascannons of our tactical squads dispatched molten menace, clearly a Xenos warlord of some sorts!
Chapter master Bad'ass raised his thunderhammer to the skies, and the skies answered! The dark clouds overhead suddenly turned a bright white when a pillar of superheated air hit the constructs still marching towards our lines, incinerating almost half of their number instantly! Multimelta and lascannon fire made short work of the remains of the initial assault, while on our flank a construct almost the size of a titan was being blown to pieces by disciplined fire from the guard nearby.
Having broken the first wave upon the anvil of battle, on a roar like vengeful gods, hundreds of bikes boosted forward into the ruined city, supported by thousands of guard infantry. Suddenly, the voxnet went haywire, and Xenos battlesuits appeared between the ruins, staying at range and trying to us hunt down one by one. Brother Hitnev'a, manning our squad's lascannon got one of the suits in his crosshairs, and grinned evily as the red hot beam punched through it with easy. With overwhelming heavy fire, Xenos forces were forced back further into the ruins, breaking through the enemy lines and bringing us nearer to where the enemy strongpoint should be.
While imperial guard artillery made sure the foul Xenos held their heads down, Gunships swooped in from the abandoned flank, strafing the streets and ruins near the objective with a deadly storm of light and solid ammo, obliterating the last resistance as veteran guardsmen rappeled down from the Vendetta pattern gunships to claim the enemy strongpoint as ours. It feels good, doing the Emperor's Work and being the first to finally set foot upon the Xenos homeworld and take the battle to them, instead of mucking about in orbit, scratching nods in little ornate desks, pondering about victories past.

+++ Imperial calendar 411025 21:00 to 411026 14:30 +++
Forced to drop out of warp by the turmoil warpstorm that had been hammering the Imperial battlebarge 'Philies Wrath' for days the Valiant Steel Legion expedition force found themselves facing the Helplanet Magog. The planet was obscured by a thin red veil that played havoc with every orbital auspex scan available to the Guard. Last known contact with the spearhead force that established a bridgehead on the planet was back in 410913. The only way to find out if those men were still alive was to make a blind drop to the surface. Risky business indeed, but with nerves of steel the Guard made their way down in the troops landers with AV26. Like fiery commets they dropped down on the surface, illuminating the red sky with ... euh... some more red. Deploying in orderly ranks the Guard did what they do best, deploying in orderly ranks. But then the auspex came back to live. A strange techmarine once said to me: "It goes beep", but now it went: "beep-beep-beep-beep-beep". Then the red veil parted, disolving like a guardsman undies in used motor oil. The Guard where ready to sell their lives dearly, fingers straining on every available gun, waiting for targets, facing their inevitable doom... But when the mist was gone they realized they were not alone! A miracle had happened! The Emperor had surely intervined because between the guardsmen and the lines of the enemy a full compliment of the Salamanders finest warriors had assembled. Rows of Attack Bikes, Predators, Rhinos and Marines were storming towards the enemy lines. No one knowes if a malfuntion caused one of the bikes to turboboost forward and which bike exactly it was. All that the guardsmen know is that the complete detachment of shiny green ceramite and steel rushed towards the hated foe. A magnificent and terrible sight to see!, and one seldom does. It took the Guard some moments, but then, still with gaping mouths, they unleashed a storm of fire to provide the heroic Salmanders with some cover fire. After that everything happened in a wild rush. It didn't take long to eradicate the aliens and the traitors. The battlefield was covered in blown off bodyparts. Mingled remains of corpses strewn around like broken dolls. Company Commander Philie Steel Balls, commonly known as 'pops' just managed to shout: "HALT" in the vox, fearing the Salamanders would drive of the cliff on the other end. Luckely they got tangled up in some rocky outcrops which halted their advance. But the day was won. The enemy conquered. The vile creatures slain. The last of the remaining alien was taken prisoner and shackeled to be taken back as a gift to the Inquisition. High Marshal Philbrecht will be appraised of the actions made today by the Salamanders. He will decide how to properly respond to this news. If it ever reaches him.
