The face of the enemy…

The guise of the enemy I know well. When the astra telepathica took me from the bulk freighter I was born and probably going to die on, my instructor gave me a small mirror, so I might better learn what it looked like. Every being with my power is a threat, most of all to themselves. Deep inside, I knew this was true. Even when I was young, I could feel the presence of something malicious, lurking just behind some veil I could not see, waiting for a chance to pounce on me and devour me whole. When I was given the task to seek those unfortunate souls out, so they too might be saved, I accepted it gladly. All of those who share my fate have an equal right of deliverance, to have their soul shielded by the emperor himself.

But as I watched from the shadows of the treeline, it was the first time I saw the enemy unmasked, the true face of chaos. The thought that, if it wasn’t for the god-emperor, I might have ended up like this or worse, sent shivers down my spine. These shambling, warped things, they were not even remotely human any more, their very existence a constant pain upon my sixth sense.

This time we were ready however. Twice already had these chaos abominations raided our camp, killed innocents, eaten them like… something worse than animals. We would not suffer a third time.
With the fires of vengeance, the trap was sprung. This was the time we destroyed these things, for their crime of killing our comrades, for terrorizing these innocents, for existing in a reality they do not belong in. We fought with the triumphant anger of those who see the cause of all their fears wounded and vulnerable, and destroyed them, with minimal losses on our side. One could have been avoided however…

Poor Guilliman, who had fought as brave as the legendary warrior he shared his name with, was struck down by friendly fire. I felt a malign will redirecting the lasbolt intended for the spawn, and what is more, I had felt its source. I cannot help but feel somewhat responsible for this. I knew it was unlikely that the spawn were the only ones to come out of the crash untainted, I knew even better chaos hides its true face. I had tried to be vigilant, and constantly searched for traces of warp corruption. But this one had been clever, and had hidden itself in a gun, only to briefly show itself when it saw an opportunity to harm the loyal servants of the emperor.

It is those who are the most dangerous, who are smart enough to hide their true nature. Like the man Matellus I have a bad feeling about.
I fear these spawn were In fact the least dangerous of our problems. The time for subtlety is gone. I must reveal my true identity, so I might add the weight of the astra telepathica’s authority to my suspicions. I hope it will be enough to convince them and save us from further harm.



On a side note stel ik voor een apart topic te maken voor narration.

Enough! No longer will we stand idle while these... things run rampant through our base! The trap was sprung when the abominations seeked out another easy meal in the loyal citizens of the Imperium. We made sure those too weak to fight were well clear of the camp, seeking new shelter elsewhere. The cogboys' improvised augur array revealed the remains of a settlement nearby. Whether it is Imperial, xenos or other, it is too early to determine. Meanwhile, the strong and faithful prepared to wipe the abominations from the face of this world. With rightuous flame would this place be cleansed!

It is with great pride that I have witnessed that the flock that had gathered around me does not stand down in the face of evil. Their spirits bolstered by my rightuous sermons, they stood by my side as we charged these hellspawns, carrying only the tools of our trade for weapons, our only armour the zeal in our hearts and the unyielding trust in the Emperor. These brave souls are helpless pawns no more. They are now more. Enlightened. Crusaders! Up close and personal, we took an impressive tally, crushing over half of these foul mutants between us!

Alas! Not all of us walked away from the fight that day. Four gave the ultimate sacrifice, buying precious time for the others to help smite these foes. They humble me. I am honored to have been their shepherd. They shall never be forgotten, I have made sure of this. Yet the flock endures. Stronger. Tempered. Like steel. Whatever else horrors still lurk in this forsaken place, they will no longer find helpless prey.

They will find wolves!
